My Google search gripe

Recently, I was looking to find some brand logos on Google’s image search page. What I needed was high resolution, transparent PNG logos. I wasn’t interested in anything else! Luckily, Google lets me filter these options. But. Unfortunately, every… single… time… I go to search the next logo, Google wipes all my filters and I have to re… add… them… it’s so convoluted and very frustrating. I have to go to ‘tools’ every time and re-add each filter, individually. Is this really necessary, Google?

Key Heuristics to remember…

“Freedom and control” - Jakob Nielson

“Don’t force me your way” - Steve Krug

Solution…

Rework the search engine after user’s have completed at least one search. Say I have applied filters and completed at least one Google image search. Now if I search within the top bar - without going back to the completely wiped image search screen - then leave the filters in place! With that, upon loading the new search page, there could simply be a “remove filters” option clearly displayed in the tools section. Overall, this will save me multiple clicks and will only add an extra one click if I did indeed want to actually clear all the filters for my new search term.
