Err… how much?

When uploading an item on eBay recently, I found myself confused as to why eBay was changing the listing price. I listed a bike for £195.00 and it showed this amount in my eBay app listings screen. Great! Yet, when I went to actually view the actual bike listing, I noticed the price was appearing as £234.00. What? I went back to my listing… yep, £195.00. So why would it appear at a higher price? This was really confusing and honestly quite annoying. Is it a glitch? Or is eBay adding on their fees? If so, why wouldn’t eBay explain that to me before slapping them on… not impressed, eBay!

Solution…

To get to the bottom of this, we would need to discuss with eBay how their seller model works. If eBay are indeed adding their mark up on top of the seller’s listed price then surely this needs to be addressed. There are two ways of combating this…. A) there is an automatic calculator built into the ‘list an item’ page basically saying “eBay add a mark up of ‘eBay Y’ % on top of each sale. So your listing at £ ‘seller X’ will appear to potential buyers as ‘seller X’ + ‘eBay Y’% = final listing price” OR B) they really should just include their eBay mark up fees within the seller’s chosen price but explicitly show that their fees will come out of this sale price. “You’re listing your product for £195.00, just to be clear… we will take ‘Y’ % from this sale” - much simpler.
